Schedule - Autumn 2011

September 1 - Applications open.
September 24 - All applications due by the end of the day according to +rltime.
October 15 - Clutching! Or roundabout here.
November 5 - Approximate hatching date.

How to Apply

There will be a bbpost on September 1 about this. The application will be submitted entirely on-game, but it's not especially long. A handful of questions, mostly about what kind of dragon you want, and a handful more for gold applicants. There is plenty of time to complete the application, so please, don't feel the need to submit the first day, or even the first week. Copy the questions into a text editor and think about them for awhile, while you roleplay. You can change your mind about what you want in a dragon, later, but it's easier if you just spend some time first figuring out where your character's really going.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Between the ages of 16-25. (ICly, they can be as young as 14, but our character guidelines are just a little higher.)
  • Not married. Although they can have been married previously, just not while a Candidate.
  • Not caring for children. Any children must be fostered or in the care of a family member.
  • No disabilities. The character must be in good enough health to be able to fly Threadfall—for us, this isn't theoretical!

How We Decide

Chromatics

Congratulations: If you aren't notified in the course of the Search process that we have removed you from consideration for behavioral issues? Yeah, you're Impressing. Your chromatic choices are automatically treated as even… if you have a first choice, just put that down. Even if we end up with a lot more PCs of one color than another, we'd still rather see you playing what you want to be playing.

If you put down brown/green, for example, we'll assume you like both equally well, and we may use you to balance out numbers, or we might pick the color we think goes with the dragon we think will be awesome for you, or we might just roll dice. If your preference is brown, then green if not brown, just put down brown.

The sort of things you might end up hearing about, in terms of behavioral issues: Problems with powerposing. Problems with proper typing/spelling/grammar. Inappropriate OOC social behavior—really excessive spam on a regular basis, treating other people poorly, etc. Violating confidentiality in terms of metallic Search decisions. Any sort of harassment. Any sort of plagiarism. Generally? Stuff that is not playing nice with the community.

Gold

There can be only one. Like Highlander. Only shinier.

Because of that, we can't make any promises about golds, and we have to have higher standards than for the general population—things we're looking for PC goldriders to be that aren't required of everybody else. If you're interested in gold, please see our page on gold qualifications.

Gold applicants will have the option of putting down a second choice and being guaranteed Impression on some color, or putting down only gold and not knowing. However, all gold applicants will have the right to be informed confidentially (that means you can't tell anybody until after the Hatching) of their own status after the Search votes are cast, so that it doesn't have to come as a surprise the night of.

The reason this is confidential is that it potentially gives away a pretty big thing that people are going to be wondering about, and we don't want, for example, someone who wanted to be surprised about Impressing to discover that she must be Impressing because she finds out that other people aren't. Conversely, we don't want the whole world to know who is beforehand. If you don't feel you can uphold this confidentiality, you can either choose to wait until Hatching night, or not apply for gold.

Bronzes

Bronzes are, for the most part, going to behave like chromatics in the decision process. There is, however, an exception: If we get enough bronze applications that we are seriously disrupting how many bronzes ought to be in even a pre-Pass clutch, we reserve the right to limit the numbers. Because of this, bronze applicants should put down a second choice if they have one. Priority for bronzes will be given to those who have developed, nuanced characters AND are roleplaying actively.

We do not anticipate this to be an ongoing concern after the first clutch. It may not even be a concern this time, but we're trying to plan ahead.

Bronzes at this time also have the option to be notified confidentially of whether they are Impressing bronze after the Search meeting.
