Behind the Name is a website with lots of names, that you can use either as-is, or you can change up a bit for Pern. We do generally prefer that names be easily pronounced according to fairly typical American pronunciation.
Baby Zone Name Inventory comes up with great fantasy/sci-fi names, although if you use it for your real children, you're insane.
Hollow Art has a ton of icons and a lot of tags you can sort through to find someone you like the looks of. Remember to check the played-by roster on the game!
Deeper People is a little workshop by Holly Lisle. Making yourself as a character makes you Mary Sue. Using yourself to create your characters can give you results you wouldn't ordinarily guess.
